The Dakota County CDA is accepting applications for the Housing Choice Voucher Program (Section 8 rental assistance) waiting list. The list will remain open until further notice.

The Dakota County CDA does not disclose your waiting list information due to the many variables involved in voucher availability. You will be contacted via mail when your name approaches the top of the list. Therefore, it is important to keep your address, family composition, email address, and preference status updated with the CDA.
To submit a change, or confirm whether you are on the waiting list, please log in to your account at www.myhousing.dakotacda.org.
You will be notified by email when your name approaches the top of the waiting list. At that time, you will be asked to submit current verification of your income, assets and, when applicable, residency tie to Dakota County. Once all verifications have been submitted to our staff, your eligibility will be determined.
If eligible, you will receive a letter inviting you to attend a virtual briefing which will cover the rules and regulations regarding the Housing Choice Voucher Program. Following your briefing, you will be issued a housing voucher to seek an affordable rental unit of your choice in Dakota County.
You are able to take your housing voucher to any housing unit of your choice that has a landlord or owner who is willing to accept the voucher. It is important that you find an apartment or house as soon as possible since your housing voucher is only valid for 120 days after it is issued to you. Extensions are available in certain circumstances.

The landlord will need to fill out a Request for Tenancy Approval (RTA) that must be submitted to the CDA. The information submitted by the landlord is reviewed to assure the selected unit is rent reasonable and affordable, and then the unit will be scheduled for an inspection. After this has been complete, the landlord will sign a contract with the CDA and you will sign a lease for your unit.
Yes, you must complete a recertification once a year. You will be notified of this requirement and how to complete the process, approximately 90-120 days prior to your recertification effective date.
Participants will need to provide verification of household income, assets, and, when applicable, medical and childcare expenses.
